What's included at $25 a square foot
The starting price is a complete patio on a reasonably flat yard with normal access — not just the pavers dropped on the ground. The part you never see is the part that decides whether a patio lasts, so it's never optional.
- Excavation and haul-off of the dirt
- 6 inches of crushed stone base, compacted in lifts
- 1 inch of screenings for the pavers to bed in
- Pavers from Belgard or Techo-Bloc, cut to fit
- Edge restraint so the border holds, and joint sand
- Pitched to drain away from your house, and a clean site when we leave
What raises the price
Most of the difference between two patios of the same size comes from the yard, not the pavers.
- Premium pavers — large-format slabs and slate textures cost more per square foot than classic cobble
- A slope — a patio on a grade needs a retaining or seating wall, or steps
- Tearing out an old concrete slab or a failed patio
- Tight access, where material has to be wheeled in by hand
- Add-ons: a fire pit, seating walls, steps, lighting
- Very small patios can run a bit more per square foot, because setup and cleanup don't shrink with size
Pavers, concrete or flagstone?
Poured concrete costs less up front, but a slab cracks as one piece and can't be patched invisibly. Pavers flex with the ground, individual pieces lift out and reset, and you choose the color, pattern and border.
Natural flagstone is hand-cut and fitted piece by piece, so it takes longer and costs more than pavers. On older homes and stone-fronted houses it's usually worth it.
How we get to your exact number
We price from the crew days and the materials your patio actually needs. After a free visit you get an itemized estimate — patio, walls, fire pit and lighting each on their own line — so you can see where the money goes and adjust the scope before anything is built.

How much does a 20x20 paver patio cost?
A 20×20 (400 sq ft) paver patio starts around $10,000 installed with us, at $25 per square foot. Premium pavers, a slope or tear-out of an old slab push it higher.
How much does a 12x12 paver patio cost?
A 12×12 (144 sq ft) patio starts around $3,600. Small patios can run a little more per square foot than big ones, because setup and cleanup take the same time either way.
How much would a 300 square foot paver patio cost?
About $7,500 and up at our starting price of $25 per square foot, installed on a reasonably flat yard with normal access.
Is a paver patio cheaper than concrete?
Plain poured concrete usually costs less up front. Pavers cost more but don't crack across the slab, can be repaired piece by piece, and give you far more design choice — for a patio you'll keep for decades, many homeowners decide that's worth it.
Does the price include the base and installation?
Yes. Our per-square-foot price is the finished patio: excavation, a 6-inch compacted crushed-stone base, bedding, pavers, edge restraint, joint sand and cleanup.
